Solar Panel PV System

Solar PV how does it work?

A solar PV panel is like a magic tile made of special material (mostly silicon). When sunlight hits it, it generates electricity.

Each panel can produce about 435W of energy in bright sunlight. A typical system includes around 12 panels working together.

The electricity produced is direct current (DC), but our homes use alternating current (AC). An inverter converts DC to AC, making it ready for all your household gadgets and appliances.

You can use this clean energy in your home or even send it back to the grid. Solar PV is a fantastic renewable energy source that helps reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and cuts down on carbon emissions.

How much will I save installing solar panels?

Make real cost savings by selling energy back to the grid

Save Money with Solar:

The savings you’ll see depend on the size of your solar system and whether you pair it with battery storage. Plus, it also depends on your daily energy use.

Big Savings:

Solar panels let you generate your own electricity from the sun. On average, a home can save around £540 per year. Add battery storage, and your savings could jump to £705 per year! Plus, you’ll be reducing your home’s carbon footprint.

Energy Usage:

Most households use about 50-70% of the energy they generate. This can vary based on:

  • If you work from home
  • How many people are home during the day
  • If you have an electric vehicle
  • If you use a heat pump or other electric heating
  • If you cook with electricity

Do I need permission to install a solar PV system?

Residential Solar PV Systems:

Solar PV panels are usually considered ‘permitted developments,’ meaning you often don’t need planning permission to install them. However, there are exceptions, so it’s always a good idea to check with your local planning office for guidance. If your home is in a listed building, conservation area, or national park, additional restrictions may apply.

Important Step:

If you’re planning to install a solar PV system at home, we will handle the registration with your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) for you. The DNO is the company responsible for supplying electricity to your home.

What Are the Benefits of Powering Your Home with Solar Energy?

Save on Electricity Bills:

Generate your own power from the sun and significantly cut your electricity bills. Installing solar PV panels could save you around £705 annually. Plus, you can earn money by selling surplus electricity back to the National Grid through schemes like the Smart Export Guarantee.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint:

Solar panels help reduce your home’s carbon footprint, making you an active participant in the fight against climate change. By choosing solar energy, you’re protecting wildlife and communities threatened by a warming climate. Solar is a sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative to non-renewable energy sources.

Low Maintenance and Easy Installation:

Solar PV panels are easy to install and require minimal long-term maintenance. They can be mounted directly onto your roof and will start producing electricity immediately.

In Summary, the Benefits Include:

  • Reducing your household electricity bills
  • Lowering your home’s carbon footprint
  • Cutting down on air pollution
  • Utilising a renewable, sustainable energy source
Providing a low-maintenance energy solution for your home
